Hirani and Al Ghanem take a win apiece.

Stars of tomorrow, Tejas Hirani (Kenya) and Ahmad Al Ghanem (Kuwait) won Rounds 7 and 8 respectively at the Yas Marina Circuit. But it was Campos Racing’s Ahmed Al Ghanem who put in a stellar qualifying  performance to grab pole position and an extra 5 championship points on Thursday with a lap of 1.00.087 which was just one-tenth of a second quicker than Hirani. The five Competition Class drivers were separated by just 1.816 seconds, a testament to the training being provided to all the drivers by professional coach Andy Pardoe who attends every Formula Gulf event from the UK.

Race 1 would prove to be a very exciting event as Al Ghanem grabbed the lead and pushed very hard whilst Hirani followed him in second place clearly looking after his tyres for the first 3 laps. Then the assault started with Hirani gradually reeling Al Ghanem back in. On lap 12 the Kenyan got a good tow down the front straight and made a very clean out braking maneuver into turn 1 to take the lead which he held to the chequered flag. They were followed home by Saudi racer, Mashhur Bal Hejaila who is improving rapidly as the season progresses!

So Race 2 saw Hirani start the race on pole position but somehow he managed to fluff the rolling start and got swamped by the drivers beside and behind him. However, he managed to hold his inside line and brake very late into the first turn enabling him to slot nicely behind the fast starting Al Ghanem who had to start the race on grained tyres from his earlier race. Mashhur was again holding station in 3rd between two groups of drivers where a battle for 4th place was taking place between two very improved drivers, Yousuf Al Bader (Kuwait) in 4th and AlFaisal Al Zubair (Oman). But is was Al Zubair who managed to find great pace, putting in the 3rd fastest lap of the race to overhaul the very quick Al Bader to take fourth place. Kevin McShine again finished in 6th place racing the car of Neal Greer. Fastest laps were still being posted by the end of Race 2 showing good longevity of the new Hankook tyres.
